Dear Friend,

I am writing on behalf of First Candle, as well as my own family, to request your support for an important local event.

In July 2008, our precious son, Travis, passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). It is a devastating loss, one with which our family continues to struggle. In an effort to help us deal with Travis’ death, our family has decided to take a proactive step towards ensuring that all infants in our community and beyond survive and thrive.

First Candle is a national organization, which promotes safe pregnancies and the survival of babies through the first years of life.

With programs of research, education and advocacy, we are working toward a future where all babies are provided the best possible chance to reach not only their first birthday, but many happy birthdays beyond. Until we reach this goal, we remain committed to providing compassionate grief support to all those affected by the death of a baby.

As you may be aware, SIDS is the sudden, unexpected death of an infant. It remains unexplained after all known and possible causes have been ruled out. It is the number one cause of death for infants one month to one year of age, claiming 2,100 babies in the United States each year. Historically SIDS has been a mystery, leaving behind devastated families and bewildered physicians. Today, they are beginning to find some answers—such as factors that increase the risks for SIDS and actions that parent can take to reduce those risks.

On July 11, 2009, we are hosting the 1st Annual Travis William Bubolz Memorial Day at TJ’s Sports Bar and Grill, 1502 Clark Street, Manitowoc, WI 54220 to benefit the SIDS research program of First Candle.

We need your help and are respectfully asking that you join us in our effort to promote infant health and survival. For your donation, either monetary or in-kind, you would be listed as a sponsor of the Travis William Bubolz Memorial Fund. Your sponsorship would be a critical part of the success of our event.

Please make checks payable to First Candle’s Travis William Bubolz Memorial Day, 1314 Bedford Ave, Suite 210, Baltimore, MD 21208, or your donation can be dropped off at TJ’s Sport Bar and Grill.

Your contribution and the proceeds from Travis’ Memorial Day will support SIDS medical research through First Candle, a national, not-for-profit voluntary health organization and the leader in this field.

We would like to thank you for your kind consideration and for your belief that every baby should thrive and thrive.

Sincerely,

William Bubolz and Stacie Robinson
